The best Middle School Chess Team in America is the Vaux
Chess Team. The team needs your help. They need to raise $4,000. to attend the national
championships, May 5-9, 1999, in Columbus, Ohio. Vaux Middle School is located in the
North Central section of Philadelphia, PA, US. The Vaux Chess Team has a 20 year history
of chess excellence. It was originally started as an activity for disruptive or
underachieving students. The team has evolved and grown since then. Today, all of the
members of the team are honor students. With all of the bad news about inner city youth,
the Vaux Chess Team provides an example of great achievements won through diligence and
hard work.They are the good guys and girls, and they need your financial support. Vaux
Chess features 2 of the top female players in the United States, Latoria Spann
and Denise Pickard. Denise was rated by the US Chess Federation in the top 50 under
13 year old players in the country. Vaux Chess team has beaten the best middle school and
high school teams in the nation. The team has also beaten the chess team from Bucknell
University. Coached by Mr. Salome Thomas-El and assistant coach Ishmael Abdul Al-Islam,
the team looks forward to the national championships and great success. |
