 Pictured on the left are Champion Latoria Spann, Grammy Winner Lauryn Hill,
and Coach Salome Thomas-El.Vaux Chess features 2 of the top female
players in the United States, Latoria Spann and Denise Pickard. Denise was rated by
the US Chess Federation in the top 50 under 13 year old players in the country. Vaux Chess
team has beaten the best middle school and high school teams in the nation. The team has
also beaten the chess team from Bucknell University. Coached by Mr. Salome Thomas-El and
assistant coach Ishmael Abdul Al-Islam, the team looks forward to the national
championships and great success. |
